Description
"The main objective is to evaluate the presence of the most consumed pharmaceuticals in Catalonia in the effluent wastewaters and submarine outfalls from wastewater treatment plants that release waters into Mediterranean Sea.
To do this, the development of an analytical method based on solid phase extraction (SPE) and analysed by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for its determination will be carried out.
The specific objectives of this project will be:
- Prioritized the pharmaceuticals in base its consumption in Catalonia in Hospitals and Pharmacies (data provided by “Catalan Agency for Health Quality and Evaluation (AQuAS)).
- Calculate the predicted environmental concentration (PEC) in the effluents and surface waters from the Catalonia region.
- Develop an optimized an analytical method analytical method for the simultaneous determination of 80 pharmaceuticals based on solid phase extraction (SPE) and liquid chromatography couple to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
- Evaluate the quality parameters of the method developed.
- Evaluate the presence of target pharmaceuticals in the effluent of both senior residences.
- Study the Risk assessment of the target compounds"
