GAM's activity is focused on developing scientific-technical research to solve specific problems linked to societal challenges related to advanced manufacturing, efficient use of raw materials, and structural performance. The Group has a successful history of using applied mechanics, material science, and cutting-edge technology to help define and solve industrially motivated problems, establishing close and productive partnerships with a range of companies in the production, construction, and manufacturing sectors. Research lines focus on the behavior of advanced engineering materials and structural components to help support the enhanced design and successful performance. The research covers additive manufacturing (polymer, metal, optimization and post-process), damage mechanics (fracture, fatigue, impact), material science (nanoindentation, tribology, coatings and diffraction), dynamic analysis and artificial intelligence-based approaches for monitoring safety-critical structures.
