Resumen
The amount of pressure athletes experience in order to achieve sport performance succeed is often associated with the need to have a certain physical appearance, which can lead to develop Eating Disorders (ED). Aiming to identify the sport-specific weight pressures related with body size/shape Reel, Petrie SooHoo y Anderson (2013) developed and validated, in English, the Weight Pressures in Sport scale for female athletes (WPS-F). The purpose of this study is to translate into Spanish the questionnaire and to study its psychometric properties. Participants were 193 female colleges from the Sport and Exercise Degree (M = 20.27 years, SD = 3.01). After deleting 3 items, a new 15 item and a two factors structure is proposed, all with positive internal consistency. Adequate convergent validity was obtained with other variables. The results show that the Spanish version of the WPS-F is a proper and valid measure to assess and examine the weight-related sport pressures within female athletes.
