Resumen

This article conducts an analysis of 86 Tactical and Strategic Asset Allocation strategies over a dataset spanning January 1995 to April 2025. The study evaluates performance across multiple horizons, 30, 10, 5, and 1 year, as well as during four major stressed market environments, the dot com bubble (2000 2002), the Global Financial Crisis (2008 2009), the COVID 19 pandemic (2020 2023), and the Trump tariffs shock (March April 2025). The results show that, over the long term, Tactical Allocation Strategies (TAA) consistently outperform Strategic Allocation Strategies (SAA) including the traditional 60/40 benchmark in risk adjusted terms, while shorter horizons exhibit weaker and more unstable outcomes. During crises, many strategies provided resilience compared to the benchmark, although their effectiveness varied across environments. Boxplot and regression analyses highlight that certain features contribute more consistently to performance. Overall, the findings suggest that TAA can serve as a valuable complement to Strategic Asset Allocation, especially when designed with strong crash protection mechanisms, offering both improved long-term efficiency and resilience during market downturns.
