Palaces, rooting and networking: Building educational opportunities in a popular neighborhood in Buenos Aires

Producción científica: Contribución a una conferenciaContribuciónrevisión exhaustiva

Resumen

Latin America remains one of the most unequal regions globally, with deep-rooted disparities not only in income and wealth but also in access to quality education. This paper explores how educational systems in the region perpetuate social and economic inequalities, particularly affecting low-income and geographically marginalized populations. It highlights the stark contrasts between private and public education, urban and rural areas, and affluent and impoverished communities. Despite governmental efforts to improve access and quality, structural barriers—such as underfunded infrastructure, teacher shortages, and territorial disparities—continue to hinder progress. The study emphasizes the need for comprehensive reforms that address both socioeconomic and geographic dimensions of educational inequality to break the cycle of exclusion and foster equitable development.
