title = "Moodle Digital Competency Analyzer: A Tool for Automatizing the Extraction of Teacher Digital Competence from Moodle Interactions",
abstract = "Ever since the publication of DigCompEdu, the European framework for the digital competence of educators, several tools have emerged to facilitate its implementation. While some of these tools were promoted by the European Parliament itself, others were developed by third parties. Most of these tools took the form of quantitative self-assessment questionnaires or knowledge questionnaires assessing the teacher{\textquoteright}s self-perception or theoretical knowledge. In this paper, we propose a novel tool for analysing teachers{\textquoteright} digital competence based on the extraction of knowledge derived from their interaction with a virtual learning environment, such as Moodle. The process is fully automated and does not require teacher interaction. The program is fuelled by the objective data generated by the teacher during their interaction with Moodle. Our results demonstrate that it is possible to assess teachers{\textquoteright} digital competence by leveraging the information generated through their interaction with Moodle. However, the limitations of assessing the entire DigCompEdu framework are also highlighted, in part due to the nature of Moodle as a virtual learning environment, which reflects the actions undergone but not their intention.",
