Resumen

In the wake of a significant paradigm shift in favour of multilingualism in applied linguistic and sociolinguistic analysis, we are witnessing the development of novel theoretical models, the design of interdisciplinary empirical research and the implementation of engaging pedagogic practices at all levels of education. In the transdisciplinary subject area of translation studies and educational linguistics, which this handbook focuses on, the multilingual turn is giving rise to a mutual exchange of knowledge and expertise that is enhancing our understanding of the place and role of translation in educational contexts worldwide. This introductory chapter explains the rationale for publishing a handbook on translation and education, specifies the main objectives we intend to achieve, outlines the structure we have adopted, and presents the content of each contribution, highlighting commonalities and differences as well as proposing avenues for future collaborative research between scholars-teachers engaged in both fields of enquiry.
