Resumen

One of the central elements in the current model of disability is the construct of support needs, which has its origin and foundation on a socio-ecological perspective of development. It is considered that people with intellectual disabilities may need more support than the rest of the general population to participate with satisfaction in their daily lives, therefore, the evaluation of these needs is essential for customized proposals that help to improve their individual functioning and their quality of life. In this paper we present the Support Intensity Scale for Children and Adolescents (EIS-I/A), which aims to solve the lack of capable instruments for effectively assessment the support needs of people with intellectual disabilities in childhood and adolescence. Likewise, a brief description of the scale and procedure of application and its contribution to the educational field is provided. So far, the evidences are few but shows an appropriate functioning of the scale in the Catalan context that encourages us to continue working on its improvement. As a main conclusion we can say that we must focus on overcoming learning barriers to achieve better personal results.
