Resumen
The purpose of this study is to learn how the therapeutic alliance is constructed in a case of family therapy with a Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) diagnosed patient. With the support of the System for Observing Family Therapy Alliances (SOFTA-o) the evolution of four dimensions of the therapeutic alliance was analyzed (Engagement in the Therapeutic Process, Emotional Connection with the Therapist, Safety within the Therapeutic System, and Shared Sense of Purpose within the Family) in the first, third and fifth sessions. The results showed how out of the four dimensions that the SOFTA-o measures, Emotional Connection with the Therapist and the Safety within the Therapeutic System dimensions were the relevant ones to build a satisfactory therapeutic alliance in the initial phases of treatment. In one hand, Emotional Connection with the Therapist was the most valuable dimension to build therapeutic alliance with the diagnosed patient, in the other, working Safety within the Therapeutic System favored alliance with all the family. In conclusion, this study has allowed to clinical practice of TLP knowing in detail how the therapeutic alliance is built throughout the starting steps of psychotherapeutic process, essential factor of therapy outcome and dificult too in these cases.
