Resumen

In the last few years, some articles have been published that described the epidemiology of diseases and injuries in people that do different sports. These studies were conducted using data collected in training periods of different duration or during specific competitions, such as the Olympic Games. The aim of this study was to collect and analyze epidemiological data about injuries in a population of sportspeople in our country for a certain period of time, which included both training and competition time. Information was collected in the medical service of a sports training centre, using data from medical visits reported in every athlete’s clinical history. 16,925 medical visits were revised, for a period of 45 months, regarding both male and female athletes of 29 different sports. Variables under analysis were type of injury, circumstances when the injury occurred, and topography of the injury. Results showed that 90 % of injuries took place during the training period. The most frequent injuries were acute (75 %). The parts of the body with more injuries were knees (17 %), ankles (12 %), feet (11%), pectoral girdle (10 %), and the lumbar region (10 %).
