When Do Social Ventures Internationalize? A Theoretical Framework

Research output: Book chapterChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Despite the growing global visibility and impact of social ventures, a conceptual model of social venture internationalization still needs to be developed. Drawing on different theories of internationalization, we develop a framework for social venture internationalization that takes into account the specific characteristics that distinguish social ventures from commercial organizations. We outline a number of organizational and environmental factors that contribute to social venture internationalization. Our theoretical framework helps to explain why social ventures may delay their internationalization or do not internationalize.
