Abstract
In this article, we exemplify with a problem of combinatorial multiplicative thinking the complexity associated with the processes of anticipation, management and evaluation of problem solving strategies used by 8-9 and 11-12 years old students to solve a combinatorial problem. The definition of the different moments, before, during and after the students’ resolution process, has been crucial to show aspects that have to be taken into account to promote competential mathematic activities. A significant contribution of this paper is the attention to the process of anticipation of the mathematical activity management in the classroom, because allows teachers keeping the control about possible variables that facilitate both taking decisions facing something unexpected that comes up during the management, as generating learning opportunities for their students.
