Abstract
Thinking about the environmental challenge from the perspective of law, about its challenges and opportunities, can be done in different ways. The text recalls some decisive milestones in regulations, public policies and the application of one or the other in the last forty years in Spain. From this retrospective perspective, it aims to identify the close relationship between diverse components (technology, procedures, administrative organization, public investment, collaboration with other legal systems, the intervention of the courts, the composition of interests,...) that become fibres to weave a framework subject to economic conditions and ideological apriorisms. A framework that is more resistant when sewn together by composing interests from the conviction that human beings, concerning our planet, are usufructuaries of shared resources.
