Abstract

In today's dynamic realm of entrepreneurship education (EE), universities strive to adequately equip students for entrepreneurial challenges. Traditional methods often lack the adaptability and depth needed for true entrepreneurial success. This chapter investigates the integration of the Metaverse-a 3D virtual world-with EE, spotlighting its transformative potential in teaching and learning. Building upon James Gee's affinity space theory, which underscores shared passion and informal learning, the research evaluates how the Metaverse can offer immersive spaces conducive to developing entrepreneurial skills and collaboration. Introducing the concept of Immersive Entrepreneurship, this study analyses the impact of empowerment of students through hands-on experiences, cultivating problem-solving, critical thinking, and adaptability. Techniques such as Problem-Based Learning, Experiential Learning, and Game-Based Learning are also assessed within the Metaverse's engaging environment. The fusion of the Metaverse with affinity spaces presents a novel educational approach. In these spaces, students are expected to co-create knowledge, hone entrepreneurial skills, and forge valuable connections. Immersive Entrepreneurship challenges conventional pedagogies, inspiring students to be active participants and innovators in their education. The chapter spotlights a case study of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University's Entrepreneur College (Taicang) to demonstrate the Metaverse's role in elevating entrepreneurial education. Emphasizing existing gaps in the literature, the study advocates for in-depth exploration, like the presented case study, to elucidate the vast potential of Immersive Entrepreneurship through the Metaverse.
