Abstract

If you aren’t sure whether emerging markets are important to consider in theory development, then think about some of the trends. Emerging markets account for nearly half of global GDP and two-thirds of global growth in the past decade (World Economics, 2022). Emerging markets are countries that have lacked strong formal institutions around business development, but perhaps possess strong informal institutions that have allowed them to develop in their own way. These unique cultural and institutional contexts provide opportunities for new frameworks and theories that can more effectively align employees, organizations, and institutions, regardless of geographic location. Yet, theory development in emerging markets is still, well…emerging.
