Abstract

Many people in organizations experience their environment as dynamic, where it is unclear what the future will be. Change as a rational and planned process is then an illusion. This article highlights how play and playfulness can help us to prepare ourselves and our organizations for the future. Change as collaborative play helps when the environment is ambiguous and proven methods no longer work. This article provides an insight into what playing means, presents a play model for organizational change and describes how playfulness creates new opportunities for changing and innovating organizations in a world that is unpredictable. Examples from various organization illustrates the theoretical concepts and the play model for collaborative change in organizations.
