Abstract

When thermal and heat transfer data for reactors of different size are available, it is possible to design safe processes at the industrial required scale. However, measurement of heat transfer for industrial batch and semi-batch reactors is usually considered an onerous and difficult task. A procedure based on known mixtures and reactions is suggested to determine overall heat transfer coefficients, which can be used to extrapolate to other mixtures and conditions. Such a method can complement the traditional measurements, based on heating and cooling known fluids.
