Abstract

This paper aims to verify whether the sys-tematic application of certain teaching methods with the support of digital text-books and adequately trained teachers can incur significant improvements in stu-dent learning and academic performance. Specifically, we developed a proposal to work with Catalan spelling with digital books and learning materials, aimed at students of first ESO (middle school), an educational stage that has made signifi-cant investment in technological equipment (classrooms within the Educat 1x1 project). Therefore, digital books and edu-cational materials are used. The study involved 27 schools in Cata-lonia. Specifically, 18 of these centers (experimental centers) have applied the methodology; and the remaining 9 cent-ers (control centres) have worked with the same content without ICT resources. The results confirm that students in the experimental group obtained significantly better results in tests. Therefore, this study proves that appropriate training teach-ers in digital media; systematic use of pre-planned learning activities with ICT support as well as improved objectives regarding reinforcement and practice can improve students’ learning and academic outcomes. Keywords: Digital media; digital books; teaching methodologies with ICT; academic perfor-mance with ICT.
