Abstract
The competitive success of SMEs depends in part on the proper management of human resour-ces, and not giving them the value required is the main cause of failure of these companies. The effective management of human resources is mainly a managers’ responsability. This research aims to establish a framework of study by defining the concept of “successful industrial SMEs” in Mexico and Spain, and identifying leadership styles and key human resource practices. The research methods include a documentary analysis and in depth interviews with experts in the field of human resources. This paper presents the main results with regard to these practices.
