Abstract

Organizational change is studied from theories of play and playfulness. This perspective provides a valuable perspective for changing organizations. The insights this yield is contrasted with recent research into the approach to change processes. Change as collaborative play contributes to creativity and innovation in organizational life. Change as play is not about planned change with preconceived goals in a predictable environment. Play theory offers insights and tools to see changing organizations as collaborative play. This interplay of players in change processes can contribute to profound change in organizations in an ambiguous and uncertain world.
