Abstract
The goal of this study is to ascertain in detail young care leavers’ points of view regarding the emancipation programmes offered by Aldeas Infantiles SOS Barcelona children’s home organisation, specifically the coaching offered at the residential placement to boost their social support networks and their work and academic skills, aimed at establishing a bridge to the transition into adult life. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach, with a sample group formed by 12 people aged 18-25. The results show that young care leavers
received guidance at the residential centre and were involved in entities and associations.
Despite having also demonstrated high rates of school mobility and residential placement, all the participants are currently still enrolled in academic pursuits or employed, and belong to a support network. It is notable that stability at the placement itself can encourage a greater sense of belonging
