Abstract

Objective: To know better the specific characteristics of the hospital nursing management to identify accurately their information needs.
Methods: A triangulation of research techniques was performed to relate and complement the gathered data. The methods employed for the qualitative research were in-depth interviews and a focus group and for quantitative research a questionnaire was filled in by all the nursing directors of Xarxa Hospitalària d'Utilització Pública (XHUP).
Results: Necessary competences for nursing management are identified and major information needs are defined for them.
Conclusions: The use of inappropriate sources and information typologies unsuitably associated to the needs, reduce the informative value of nursing management
