Abstract
Some new possibilities for modification of furnace and acetylene carbon blacks by using cold plasma of oxygen, combination oxygen/ammonia and acrylic acid vapour are investigated. The surface treatment leads to appreciable change in the modulus at 100 and 300 % of elongation and in heat built-up, but does not reflect on the specific surface of the fillers and on the vulcanization parameters of the rubber compounds. A remarkable variation in the content of different elements on the fillers surface after modification was observed. The influence of the modified fillers on mechanical properties of non-polar and polar rubber vulcani-zates was studied.
