Abstract
This article has as main objective the study of the characteristics of Narciso Masferrer’s contribution to the birth of modern sports journalism in Spain between 1897 and 1920. Within the media ambit his activity was basically focused on the creation of novel journalistic projects, the production of a discourse coherent with the promotion of sport activity among people and his efforts in the professionalization of specialized journalism. From the analysis of his projects and actions during the period studied it can be clearly stated that Masferrer Sala has been one of the main figures in the modernization, consolidation and professionalization of sports press in Spain during the first third of the 20th Century.
