Abstract

Modern sport has acquired a social and cultural significance of enormous magnitude. We not only
think that it constitutes a game but a social fact of extraordinary dimensions. The sporting
phenomenon is currently the object of study by a whole set of humanistic and scientific disciplines.
The first objective that we intend to address in our study will be to analyze the role of ritual as an
element that has led to the deification of the athlete and his sporting deeds to be considered the
hero's own. A fact that we believe will allow us to affirm that contemporary sport has become an
ideal setting for the emergence and development of a whole set of rituals, signs and symbols that reflect the characteristics of societies, making them a mirror of different cultures. Where it is
practiced and also in a favorable framework so that societies can show their most significant signs
of identity. The rituals have helped to turn the practice and monitoring of sport into a leisure space
where modern societies find pleasure Through secondary sources and using a hermeneutical
methodology our work will focus on the analysis and contextualization of a whole set of rites and
myths that have turned contemporary sport into a social event of the first magnitude.
