Research output: Indexed journal article Article

Abstract

Coinciding with the bicentenary of his birth, we review some of the pedagogical intuitions of Don Bosco, with the intention of demonstrating their validity in a very different social and economic context that has certain similarities to that of Europe in the nineteenth century, especially as regards the situation of the most vulnerable young people. This review allows us to make proposals that can be transferred to the intervention of educators and social educators in general and, in particular, in the field of childhood, adolescence and youth. The importance of the links in the aid relationship, the creative power of the environment and the centrality of the young person and her or his potential, as well as some of the educational resources or attitudes that the experience and the pedagogical thinking of Don Bosco offer us, all serve to identify proposals and criteria that may be valid for present-day socio-
educational praxis.
