Abstract
The secessionist process initiated in Catalonia in 2015 is commonly referred to as a struggle between independence supporters and opponents. However, this process sets up a multifaceted phenomenon to the extent that it stems from a double political disaffection (to the state and to the Catalan political class) began in 2003 and has interacted with the impact of the economic crisis. This study analyzes the genesis and development and aims to demonstrate that their political dynamics have turned Catalonia in Span and political laboratory have created a powerful plebiscitary populism.
