Abstract

Emotional intelligence (EI) is a human´s competition. In addition, self-confidence, relationships with peers and parents are tools that guide mental health and social adaptation. This study demonstrates the association between the emotional and psychological adjustment variables, as well as differences in the city of residence. The objective is to analyze the existence of an association between levels of emotional care and personal psychological adjustment - self-esteem, confidence, interpersonal relationships with peers and relationships with parents who have teenagers, Mexicali (Mexico) and Barcelona (Spain) through TMMS-24 compliance and the BASC The sample consists of 429 adolescents with a mean age of 13.98 years and standard deviation of 1.315 years. 46.6% (n = 200) were students of the Barcelona and 53.4% (n = 229) of Mexicali and 50.3% women and 49.7% males.

The results indicate that there are differences in the 3 dimensions of EI (attention, clarity and emotional repair) by culture (for emotional care of Mann-Whitney U 665, 7 with p = 0.004 for emotional clarity and p = 612.8 0.005 and 823.12 to repair emotional p = 0.002). In reference to the association between EI and psychological adjustment, we can confirm that in terms of ability to respond to emotional states-esteem (X2 = 425.2 p = 0.001) and self-confidence (X2 = 856.5 with p = 0.0001) there is an association.

By contrast, the ability of emotional attention shows a high association with the relationship with peers (X2 = 788.1 p = 0.0001) and relationships with parents (X2 = 726.5 with p = 0, 0001).

In conclusion, the membership of a culture is associated with IE. Likewise, emotional care is associated with self-esteem, self-confidence and quality of interpersonal relationships with peers and superiors.
