Abstract

Some reflections on the importance of networks in present-day society are put forward together with the implications that building them has on the professionals that must promote them. The paper's starting point is a critical perspective according to which the network's purpose is to ensure coexistence and facilitate people's social integration. It must therefore be understood as an integrating structure. To achieve this aim, three main issues are proposed. First, we describe the basic elements of the systemic and complex nature of networks in order to understand that each is unique and distinct, with characteristics that are the result of interacting elements. Second, we propose the need to see the region not just as a geographic space, but as a symbolic interaction space where social difficulties are generated and in turn answers are created. Finally, we analyse the need to initiate a change in the attitudes of professionals that enables them to really enter the logic of working in networks.
