Abstract

The research project "Leisure, sociocultural action and social cohesion" (EDU2014-57212-R) presents conclusions on the correlation between educational leisure practices and sociocultural action activities aimed at
children, teenagers and young people, and the degree of social cohesion in the territory. The research was conducted with participants from four neighbourhoods (Prosperitat, in Barcelona; Bellvitge, in L'Hospitalet de
Llobregat; and Otxarkoaga and La Peña, in Bilbao) in two regions (Catalonia and the Basque Country). The neighbourhoods were selected based on a map of social cohesion indicators that was drawn up using validated international systems. Secondary sources enabled evidence to be gathered that identified all four as neighbourhoods in which processes for improving social cohesion have been implemented over the last ten years.
The research methodology applied (DEXPLIS) was based on a sequential, explanatory, mixed participatory model. The paper suggests a series of quality standards and indicators based on the results of the study and designed to guide the work of professionals intervening in organisations of the aforementioned type.
