Abstract
In this paper I discuss some competition issues facing the natural gas industry, with special focus on issues of market design influencing the interaction with electricity markets. I propose agent-based simulation models as a promising method combining the rigour of microeconomic analysis with the flexibility necessary for effective market design. I provide a short tutorial of how to go about building such models and discuss recent examples of these techniques to energy markets.
