Abstract

The present article focuses, primarily, on the figure of Josep Miquel Guardia, his contact with Catalan Renaissance scholars and his cultural ideas, especially the cataloguing and editing of old Catalan texts, which found expression in Le Songe by Bernat Metge (1889). It also looks at the fact that the many-sided figure of Guàrdia (doctor, pedagogue and classicist) interested Eugeni d'Ors, who commissioned Joan Estelrich to conduct a study. This work was not published, but in this article we present and comment on the materials housed in the Fons Joan Estelrich (Joan Estelrich collection) in the Biblioteca de Catalunya.
