Abstract
The general objective of the article is to identify the competencies that define a good tennis coach, to form the competency profile of the coach in said sport. In general, competency-based training models have been installed; as well as the evaluation and establishment of profiles of professional skills for sports technicians; some authors, for example, abounded in the phases of their formation. In this case, the article focuses on the competence profile of the tennis coach: obtained from the opinion of experts in training from different federations in different countries. The research answers questions such as what are the professional skills that a tennis coach should have? And what perception(s) do those responsible for training programs around the world have about the professional skills of the tennis coach? To carry out the research, the opinion of a total of 64 experts in coach training from tennis federations in different parts of the world, from Spanish territorial federations and from the development officers of the International Tennis Federation was consulted; through a self-administered online Google Forms (R) questionnaire. The results obtained are analyzed in consideration of the classifications of competencies and emotional competencies proposed by Echeverria, Bisquerra & Perez: representative figures on the subject. A general specific competency profile is presented for the tennis coach related to training, teaching methodology, social skills, communication, empathy, passion and planning.
