Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyse the changes in the self-perception of behaviour during a competitive period with top handball coaches. The sample was composed by 15 of the 16 coaches of the Spanish handball league (ASOBAL), who answered the LSS3 questionnaire (Leadership Scale for Sports) based
on Chelladurai’s multidimensional model. The register was done before and after a competition period of 5 months in order to compare the effects of the competitive period. Furthermore, the effect of the classification expectations variable on the coach was analysed too. The results showed that after the 5 months period there was a significant decrease of the democratic behaviour. Coaches who fulfil their expectations experience a significant increase of the values of the positive feedback behaviour and, on the contrary, coaches who do not fulfil their expectations experience a significant decrease of the democratic behaviour values.
