Abstract
Ignacio Ellacuría SJ (1930-1989), President of the Central American Uni-versity (UCA) of El Salvador from 1979 to 1989, explained in the middle of the Salvadoran civil war that there is a po-larization in this kind of conflicts that it is necessary to overcome with a third so-cial forth and with the start of a peace process, in which peacemakers like the University, the Church, the international support groups, and symbolic groups of reconciliation are key. It is important to analyze deep causes of the conflict (struc-tural in the Salvadoran case), in order to avoid that the conflict be born once and again.
