Abstract

Our aim in this article is to analyze practice and sociodemographic profiles of users of local sports centres of a town in Andalusia serving as an example of postmodern culture. In order to do this, we have used a sample of 727 subjects (325 women and 402 men), ages 14 to 78 years, who answered a questionnaire specifically designed for our research. Results show that the ratio of women using this type of centre is greater than that present in Spain's or Andalusia's populations. Users' socioeconomic profile is however noteworthy given that it is lower than that of the Spanish population who practice sports. As for the type of practice, there are still more fitness practice users, even if they are increasingly more involved in rhythmic activities and dance, especially in the case of women.
