Construyendo un apego seguro: intervención familiar en un caso de adopción internacional

Research output: Not indexed journal articleArticle

Abstract

Frequently, behavioural alteration of
adopted children is the reason for
consultation of many adoptive families.
Different studies have related the lack of emotional care during the prior period to
adoption as a risk factor for the
development of a secure attachment.
From our point of view, some of the
maladaptive behaviours that they present
once they have been adopted, can be
considered as attachment strategies that
are at the service of seeking proximity
with the new parental figures. In this
paper we will go deeper into the theory of
attachment, working on concepts such as
"attachment", "internal operational
models" and "mentalization". Finally,
these concepts will be exemplified
through a case. In conclusion we will
highlight the importance of interventions
focused to increas the mentalization
capacity of both parents and adoptive
children in order to reduce family
suffering, improve mutual bonding and
achieve better emotional regulation of the
children.
