Research output: Indexed journal article Article

Abstract

The concept 'mindfulness' has recently emerged in the English-speaking world and refers to a specific state of consciousness promoted by eastern meditative techniques. In this paper we review the main theoretical conceptualizations of mindfulness in the field of psychotherapy regarding its components, assessment instruments and functioning. We also summarize the main characteristics of five psychotherapeutic approaches that incorporate mindfulness: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commmitment Therapy and Brief Relational Therapy. Finally, the clinical applications of these approaches are briefly discussed.
