Abstract
The aim of this research is to determine progress in the measurement of service quality in the hotel industry. A literature review was carried out covering 1990 - 2007. This provided various perspectives and models regarding service quality in the hotel industry. The literature review revealed three broad kinds of research regarding hotel service quality: ( 1) those analysing the concept from a theoretical point of view; (2) those focusing on total qualityt management (TQM); (3) those seeking ways of measuring service quality. With regard to the third category, we can group the attributes measured in Lhree broad categories: (a) those concerning tangible aspects of the establishment; (b) those concerning reliability; (e) those concerning staff performance. Parasuraman's et al. model (1985, 1988, 1991) SERVQUAL is the one most commonly used.
