Abstract
Despite the growing interest in business models, a clear consensus on what they are is still to emerge. We advance our understanding by reviewing the extent literature, proposing three distinct perspectives that help to shed light on what a business model is. We further explore how business models evolve over time, and propose a conceptual framework that discusses what drives business model transformation. We finish the paper by proposing fruitful areas for further research.
