Abstract
Forensic engineering in the mechanical field includes research on disasters where structural elements are broken. Forensic approach looks for a plausible scenario in the starting point and a consistent story of events that ends with the outcome observed in the incident. During the work of forensic investigation, hypotheses are validated with laboratory tests on materials and computer simulations. In this paper, the concepts of forensic engineering are applied over an accident of an impact on a pipe. From evidences, several tests are performed on materials and a loss of strength capacity was found on them. It was also tested the threshold of penetration on materials by impact. Finally, numerical simulation complemented the experimental part of the story.
