Abstract
We estudied a group of dancers, through a survey and a foot examination, in order to obtain general information, and details of their dance work, eating habits, frequent complaints and foot disorders. The most noticeable finding was a somewhat delayed onset of menstruation in half of our group, a fairly high frequency of menstrual disorders, and some doubtful eating habits. We found hallux valgus in 50 % of cases, in clear relationship with the age at which dancing commenced, and also with the type of technique used. There was also a high frequency of severe hyperkeratosis on inspection of the foot, as well as claw or hammer toes. On the other hand, we — did not detect a large number of hallux rigidus.
