Abstract

Our aim in this paper was to analyze what physical activity motivation was behind users' attendance to two sports a centre, for which we used Deci & Ryan's Self-Determination Theory. We also analyzed differences regarding age, sex and previous sport practice. We used a sample of 727 subjects (325 women and 402 men), ages 14 to 78 years, who answered a Spanish translation of the BREQ-2 Scale. Results show that users scored higher in selfdetermined motivation (high intrinsic goals and identified regulation) with no significant differences found except for sex, men scored lower than women, and previous practice, users who had a previous background regarding sport practice also had higher self-determined motivation than those who did not. We suggest further research on sport facilities users' goals in order to tailor activities to user's interests and needs and to pay more attention to those users who are less motivated given that they are more prone to drop out their physical sport practice.
