Abstract
A simple network model for the design of an electromagnetically coupled stacked patch (ECSP) configuration of a microstrip antenna was presented. The proposed electrical models are a physical insight into the behavior of the ECSP. Such a simple tool allowed a fast design process, avoiding a full electromagnetic simulation and experimental trial-and-error process. Microstrip patch antennas (MPA) proved to be an attractive solution for antenna designers, especially in areas such as antennas for mobile-communications base stations and antennas for handsets. A coupled RLC resonator network was introduced to model the input impedance behavior of the ECSP.
