Description

"This proposal aims to understand to what extent and in which ways the Sustainable Development Goal 16 (“Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels”) is embedded in the different strategies and policies that the European Union is developing towards the Sahel, bearing in mind that this region has become in the last years one of the most concerning scenarios for the European Foreign Policy in terms of conflictivity and peacebuilding.

The project has three main objectives: i) to assess to what extent the SDG framework, and in particular, the SDG 16 has been taken into consideration in the design and implementation of the different frameworks, roadmaps and strategies that the EU Foreign Policy has been developing towards the Sahel in the last five years; ii) in the light of the targets and indicators considered by SDG 16, to assess achievements, progress and constraints that the EU has faced in dealing with conflictivity, violence and peace in the region; and iii) to assess critically the main limits and problems that the European approach entails, and in particular, the way the SDG framework could contribute positively and in a transformative way to rethink and reshape the European approach in this region."
