Resum
Organizational development and change facilitation have a rich tradition in guiding changes, conducting practical research, developing theory and sharing experiences in learning programs and through publications. From an analysis of articles in the Dutch Journal for Management and Organization since 1948, it becomes apparent that change facilitation has a rich history and has developed as a profession covering a broad field. Research in this field focuses on collaborative processes, human interactions, the dynamics of change, learning processes in organizations and the role of change facilitators in relationships with others to achieve positive changes for people, organizations and society. A view that goes beyond change as a planned and rational process would help change professionals nowadays to learn to deal with adaptive, spontaneous and perhaps more playful ways of change based on learning and dialogue. The authors plea to broaden the competencies of change experts, organizational developers and change facilitators. If change is increasingly seen as a collective effort of people involved, this requires relational competences such as social skills, networking skills, influencing skills, sincerity and reflective skills. If we look at the world around us and what is going on, change facilitation as professional has a clear future. Not as designers of planned change, but as co-players in social and organizational issues.
