Resum
An open questionnaire was administered to different professional leaders (physicians, administrators) and to health service users in order to obtain variables which define the professional role of the doctor in primary health care. An analysis of the principal components show that there was a high level of agreement of the characteristics which define the professional activity of a good primary health care doctor. Differences of opinion were also brought to light health services users more often used individual definitions of care. Physicians valued technical skills team work and community projection more highly. Administrators laid more emphasis on the responsability that physicians should have in the expenditure their activity generates and in collaboration witch health authorities.
