Resum

A retrospective study was made of 8 patients with congenital scoliosis who underwent surgical resection of the hemivertebrae, anterior and posterior fusion, and pediatric instrumentation. Follow-up ranged from 1 year to 5 years. Three patients were girls ranging in age from 2 to 9 years at the time of intervention. Preoperative degree ranged from 28°to 46°(mean 35°) and postoperative degree from 0°to 26°. All hemivertebrae operated on were located between T12 and S1. The instrumention used was a Baby CD in 5 cases, pediatric TSRH in 2 cases, and a pediatric Harrington in 1 case. Patients wore a plastic corset for 6 months after surgery; 1 patient wore a pelvic-leg brace for 3 months (L5-S1 intervention). In every case, a solid arthrodesis was achieved. There were no neurological complications. Hemivertebral resection is a clear option for treating congenital scoliosis in young children.
