Resum
Stakeholder engagement in international organisations (IOs) is of fundamental importance for the functioning and legitimacy of global governance. While research on this topic is rapidly increasing, many of the antecedents and effects of stakeholder engagement are still unknown. In this project, we look at the type of stakeholder engagement approaches used by 22 IOs, the sentiment of news covering those IOs (as a measure of public perception), and the relationship between both concepts. Thus, we want to explore the effects of stakeholder engagement on the perception of IOs, as viewed by the media. This chapter sets out a theoretical framing and illustrates how news sentiment data can be combined with approaches towards stakeholder engagement in IOs to move the field forward.
