RESEARCH WRITING AS A TOOL FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS AND EARLY CAREER RESEARCHERS’ DEVELOPMENT

Writing is crucial to research and researchers’ careers. Already in the doctorate, researchers are pressured to write abundantly. However, many graduate students report frequent struggles and little support regarding writing, which, if sustained, can undermine students’ well-being, interest and motivation to persist. This chapter seeks to support graduate students’ (and their supervisors’) writing. We discuss writing processes and difficulties from a sociocultural perspective and provide effective resources and tools to promote novice researchers’ writing development. Escribir es fundamental para investigar y desarrollarse como investigador. Si bien desde el doctorado, los investigadores deben escribir abundantemente, muchos estudiantes experimentan problemas y falta de apoyo para ello, lo que, de mantenerse en el tiempo, repercute en su bienestar, interés y motivación para continuar. Este capítulo pretende apoyar el desarrollo de estudiantes de doctorado (y supervisores). Analizamos los procesos de escritura y las dificultades desde una perspectiva sociocultural y proporcionamos recursos y herramientas efectivos para promover el desarrollo de la escritura de los investigadores noveles.
